Estes kit 7240 left the launch pad and about 20 feet off the pad a very loud report was experienced. It sounded like a gunshot. The Estes E12-6 motor completely destroyed the rocket forward of the boattail. A silver burn mark completely encompassed the side of the rocket as well as areas of burnt paint.
