Nozzle blown out
Comments
This CATO was due to an over pressure and failure of the aft closure threads or a failure of the aft closure threads alone. The only thing that could have blocked the nozzle was the e-match head or wire clogging the nozzle but there was no evidence from the e-match that this happened. The case, spacer, liner and forward closure/delay all stayed intact and together. The nozzle holder was shattered but the nozzle stayed intact. The aft closure was not cross threaded and was hand tight against the case. The case was a Pro38-2G case with one spacer, the delay was reduced to 6 seconds, the delay grain didn't ignite, the propellant grain was spit out and burnt on the ground, 90% of the aft closure/nozzle was recovered and rebuilt and 3 pictures show the failure in progress. I could not determine the cause of the failure but only what happened during the failure. If parts, pictures or more details are needed I am glad to provide them, I am at a loss on this one.
