Nozzle blown out
Burning propellant ejected
Comments
There was a loud pop immediately after ignition, which did not move the rocket; then the motor smoked for fifteen seconds, at which point there was a second, more muffled pop (more like a chuff) accompanied by flames and burning propellant shooting out the back end of the casing. The second pop caused the rocket to jump a few inches before sliding back down the rail. Two seconds later the ejection charge fired. Upon retrieval the nozzle was blown out but apparently intact, hanging onto the casing at one edge. Times given are accurate from video of the failure.
