description
This was something I thought was impossible until it happened. My daughter and I had been building rockets and launching them for her science project coming up this year. We built rockets and had great success with them until I attempted to walk one of our rockets over to our launch pad. I held the rocket in my left hand towards the base. Nothing was connected and I was very comfortable with situation until the rocket ignited in my hand! Daughter was horrified and I was just trying my best to get the rocket out of my hand! Yet because of the upward thrust of the rocket it was basically driving itself into my hand. I would guess the rocket engine was 70% expired by the time I got it out of my hand and away from my burning hand and thumb! Literally a nightmare and I was beyond familiar with the rocket engines and the process of building and launching them. Every necessary precaution was taken and the damage is now done. I sustained 3rd degree burns on my left hand and deep inside my thumb. I have never had any mild potential safety issues with Estes products and have no idea as to how this could happen! I figured I would report it to you guys and maybe you might have some insight.
